DEBATE & CRITICAL THINKING (Miller Only)
Entering grades eight to 10 – The challenge for young people is to present new ideas to solve world issues. Presenting those ideas in a clear, logical and engaging style is a critical skill. This course refines public speaking skills and introduces two high school debate events: Lincoln-Douglas and Public Forum. Students will debate current events, hold an in-class tournament and learn how to be a great speaker and debater. Because this course is designed for older students, students will encounter more topics and debates than in the sixth- and seventh-grade course at a more rapid pace.
