INTRODUCTION TO JAVA PROGRAMMING
Entering grades eight to 10 – This class serves as both an introduction to programming games and simulations using the Java programming language as well as a skills-development workshop for intermediate students. Programming concepts and techniques are introduced and practiced through a series of applications such as creating physics simulations and simple interactive games. Students will use the Java programming language to define objects, variables and methods for implementing simulations as well as to build and test simple programs using operators, expressions and input/output functions. Class sessions include time to work on the programs with help from the instructor. Some homework time will be required to complete the lessons. Students bring a USB drive to take their class work home. Software and lessons can also be downloaded for use at home.  Because this course is designed for older students, students will encounter more topics than in the sixth- to eighth-grade course at a more rapid pace.
