Entering grades six and seven – This class will teach students how to recognize and write the different types of essays that will help them excel in middle school, high school and beyond. Students will develop writing skills that enable them to compose personal narratives, compare-and-contrast essays and persuasive essays. Students will also learn how to engage in writing as a process with particular attention paid to word choice and vocabulary. This highly interactive class includes peer review, writer’s workshops and a final portfolio for students to take home that demonstrates their progression as a writer. Students will be expected to bring a journal to class for daily note taking and writing practice.
