Grades 5: Essay Writing #6523 (10:30AM-11:30AM)

Entering Grades 5 and 6 – This class will teach students how to recognize and write the different types of essays that will help them excel in middle school, high school and beyond. Students will develop writing skills that enable them to compose personal narratives, compare-and-contrast essays and persuasive essays. Students also will learn how to engage in writing as a process, with particular attention paid to diction and structure. This highly interactive class includes peer review, writer’s workshops and a final portfolio for students to take home that demonstrates their progress. Students will be expected to bring a journal to class for daily note taking and writing practice.
